New York has been a traditionally hesitant state when it comes to gambling expansions. Commercial casinos didn’t make their way to the state until after a 2013 voter referendum. New York State Prepares to Allow Sports Betting at Four Upstate Casinos New York has become the 14th state to formally legalize sports betting.
“With businesses operating under socially distancing guidelines, health and safety restrictions and doing all or some of their business virtually and online, now is the time for New York to take the next step and move forward with mobile sports betting,” Santabarbara said. Legal gambling in New York runs the gamut from Las Vegas-style casinos to racinos, horse race betting, and even a robust lottery. Legalized casino-style gambling began soon after the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was passed in 1988. As a result, three Native American tribes now operate seven casinos in New York. On June 10, 2019, the New York State Gaming Commission approved rules and regulations to allow sports betting in the Empire State. While this news might seem positive, New York residents may need to temper their excitement for the time being. The approved activity is limited to New York’s four commercial casinos and Indian casinos.
In 2016 New York began regulating online fantasy sports as a game of skill. A recent court ruling threatened Daily Fantasy Sports in the state, but they are still legal, for now. DFS giants like FanDuel and DraftKings have permits to operate in New York.

Horse racing is an American staple when it comes to betting. For a long period of time now, horse racing has withstood any kind of legislative attacks, and it looks like for the near and distant future, this will not change. This is one of the few online betting operations available in the entire State of New York.

How the Coronavirus Pandemic Has Changed New York Betting
The pandemic has been horrible for the entire world; however, one thing that is particularly suffering is the tax revenue for governments all over the world. This includes New York State, which is projected to need to find over $15 billion in revenue over the coming years to make up for the deficit it is facing.
